Robert Stevenson has over 29 years' experience handling U.S. and international litigation, especially patent litigation, in the pharmaceutical (both proprietary and ANDA clients), biotechnology, diagnostic, clinical trial, chemical, polymer and medical device arenas. He has also prosecuted world-wide patents in the same areas. He has been counsel of record in many U.S. federal patent litigation matters, has consulted on many other cases, and has supervised international litigations in the U.S, China, Japan, the U.K. and Germany. He also has been counsel of record in a number of U.S. patent interferences and patent re-examinations and reissue applications and has also handled arbitration and mediation cases in the U.S.

Mr. Stevenson's work involving mechanical devices includes medical devices, particularly oximetry catheters and monitors, automated IV infusion pumps and cassettes, dialysis devices and other drug delivery systems.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Stevenson was Vice President of Cell Pathways (now part of Astellas/OSI Pharmaceuticals), a publicly traded pharm/biotech company, and Senior Counsel at Abbott Labs. He is a former partner and chair of the pharma/biotech group at Brinks Hofer, a prominent IP firm in Chicago, and was Senior Patent Counsel for Rohm and Haas.

A past adjunct professor of Patent Law at DePaul University School of Law (1992-1996), Mr. Stevenson is a member of the Pennsylvania and Illinois State Bars and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A graduate of Penn State University (with distinction B.S. 1977), he received his Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan (M.S. 1979) and his law degree from Wayne State University (J.D. 1982). Mr. Stevenson is a member of Caesar Rivise's ANDA Patent Litigation Team ,Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Team, and Mechanical Engineering Patent Team.

Eli Lilly v. Invagen, (E.D. NY 2009) Represent defendant; case stayed pending outcome on appeal.

Bone Care and Genzyme v. Pentech, (N.D. Ill 2008) Represent ANDA defendants in case with two asserted patents; lead patent disclaimed by plaintiff following defendants' motion for summary judgment of invalidity; tried case on second patent; case pending.

Connectics et al. v. Pentech, (N.D. Ill. 2007) Represented ANDA defendant. Case settled.

Guardian Products, Inc. v. Aqualift (C.D. Cal. 1993) Represented plaintiff in a patent infringement action involving both utility and ornamental design patents. Obtained judgment enjoining defendant from further manufacture and an award of damages.

Viskase Corp. v. American National Co. (N.D. Ill. 1993) $102 million jury patent verdict for client

TayMac Corp. v. Intermatic (D. Ariz. 1994) represented defendant;  judgment for defendant

BP Chemicals, Ltd. v. Eastman Kodak Company, represented plaintiff, court ruled that defendant was licensed under patent in suit

Hoechst Celanese v. B.P. Chemicals, Ltd., (S.D. Texas 1992) Represented defendant patent owner in a declaratory judgment action involving patent on a catalytic process for making acetyls. Patent found valid on summary judgment.

Viskase Corp. v. W.R. Grace (N.D. Ill. 1990) represented plaintiff; case settled after discovery and prior to trial

Aluminum Company of America v. Reynolds Metals, Inc. (N.D. Ill. 1988) represented plaintiff, jury found patent valid and infringed; case settled on appeal

Baxter Travenol, Inc. v. Abbott Laboratories (N.D. Ill. 1985) represented defendant, case settled after discovery and before trial as a result of mediation hearing as lead counsel.
